Perfection Is Boring!public - created 02/07/05 |

This is a tribe for celebrating "all things counter, original, spare, strange;/Whatever is fickle, freckled (who knows how?)/With swift, slow; sweet, sour; adazzle, dim" (Gerard Manley Hopkins, "Pied Beauty"),
for asking, as Donovan Leitch did,
"Do you have a shirt that you really love/Ones that you feel so groovy in?
You don't even mind if it starts to fade/That only makes it nicer still....
Do you have some jeans that you really love/Ones that you feel so groovy in?
You don't even mind if they start to fray/That only makes them nicer still....
Do you have some shoes that you really love/Ones that you feel so flashy in?
You don't even mind if they start to get some holes in/That only makes them nicer still."
("I Love My Shirt," on the Barabajagal album)
We appreciate the quirky, the funky, the wonky, the cockeyed, the cattywampus. Perhaps we "distress" our furniture as soon as we paint it. We avoid the conventional, the cookie-cuttered, the cloned. We are the kind of people who would intentionally sew an "imperfection" into a quilt, or would enjoy finding the one in somebody else's, just because that makes it more interesting. We may even be accused of "spoiling" it for others who are boring enough to prefer perfection.
Bah! Anybody can be perfect! The uniqueness is found in the flaws.
